about
I wrote this song 2 years ago as part of a project I began with Chief Beats AKA Ryan Moccasin, in response to a lot of things that were happening in the news, in politics, in the local city and in my head. Once it was finished and recorded, i knew it needed something a bit further to frame it, so i borrowed a phrase from Kay's album, "Waterloo," from the track "Vote Hungry" and it just made more sense to me. Kay the Aquanaut has always been a huge inspiration to me and I've never really done a heavily politically charged track that I can remember. Every time I watch him perform, his energy tends to hit the crowd right in the chest just before they're on the feet, chanting his power along with him.
Today I realized this might be a song that helps push more people on that personal crusade they might have been harbouring, angry at the government, fed up with treatment received, or tired of the day in and day out bullshit that can be forcefed to us online. I suppose its another voice in the chorus to urge people to speak their mind, in whatever forum they can and feel comfortable in.
I'm well aware of various incarnations of this word, but I think part of healing past historic violence and wrong doings associated with words is to provide a better definition and history for such terms, so that the collective purpose of the word loses the majority of those negative conotations.
